ABOUT

My name is Sushil Basu, and art has been a silent part of my life since childhood. I grew up in a family where creativity was always encouraged. I remember watching my brother and sister drawing for hours — at that time, I didn’t know that those small moments were shaping my future.

When I joined Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya after 5th grade, art became more than just curiosity. From 6th standard onwards, I started learning seriously under the guidance of inspiring teachers who recognized my potential and encouraged me to pursue it.

After completing my schooling, I followed my passion and pursued a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Kurukshetra. Later, I completed my Master’s degree in Portrait Painting from RTM Nagpur University, Maharashtra. Portraiture helped me understand emotions, expressions, and the silent stories hidden in faces.

I work in oil, acrylic, charcoal, and mixed media, but watercolor feels closest to my heart. Its flow and transparency allow me to express emotions naturally.

My art is deeply inspired by Indian culture, festivals, and nature. The vibrant colors of India — its traditions, spirituality, and everyday life — give life to my canvases. While many contemporary artists are influenced by Western styles, I choose to stay connected to Indian roots and identity.

Through my work, I aim to preserve the emotional and cultural spirit of India in a modern visual language.
